It's no secret we are a go, go, go society. We don't want to stop for anything. We are overworked, stressed out and sleep deprived! We say things like "I'll sleep when I'm dead." People don't realize how important sleep is for our health. Â
Â
Most people need 7-8 hours of sleep a night. Are you getting that? Chronic sleep deprivation can lead to early death. It is a risk of heart disease and heart attacks, mood disorders, accidents and weaker memory.
Â
So, how can you change this? What can you work on today to ensure that you are getting enough sleep? Â
Â
Here are some tips to help get better sleep:
Keep a consistent sleep schedule. Even on the weekends and during vacation.
Set a bedtime to ensure you are getting 7-8 hours of sleep.
If you don't fall asleep within 20 minutes, get up and do a light activity with no electronics. Try reading or meditating.Â
Take the TV out of your bedroom.Â
Make your bedroom a quiet and relaxing environment. Set the room to a cool temperature.
Limit exposure to bright lights in the evening.Â
Turn off electronics 30 minutes before bed and leave outside of the room.
If you are hungry before bed, have a light snack.
Exercise earlier in the day. Â
Avoid caffeine in the afternoon.
Avoid alcohol before bed.
How do you sleep? What sleeping tips can you add to your daily routine?
