We are social creatures! There is proof that having social connectedness is the number one factor that has us living a longer and healthier life.... But does social media count as social connectedness?
We use social media platforms to connect with others, but this is not a replacement for real human interaction. Social media was made to bring people closer together, but in reality spending too much time can make you feel lonely and more isolated.
Recently, I got rid of social media from my phone. It wasn't an all out ban. I still go on through my laptop, but I now I don't mindlessly scroll and pick up the phone every time I have an inkling of boredom. I feel it has been better for me.
Do you feel like you should take some time away from social media?
"A 2018 University of Pennsylvania study found that reducing social media use to 30 minutes a day resulted in a significant reduction in levels of anxiety, depression, loneliness, sleep problems, and FOMO." You don't need to cut back significantly to improve your mental health. Are you ready to take the challenge?
Here are some tips to help you reduce your time on social media apps:

Use an app to track how much time you spend on social media each day.
Turn off your phone at certain times of the day.
Don’t bring your phone or tablet to bed.
Disable social media notifications.
Limit how many times you check your phone.
Try removing social media apps from your phone, so you can only check Facebook, Twitter and the like from your tablet or computer.
