Diet culture is everywhere! We can't get away from it, but there are ways that you can protect your kids at home!
The statistics are pretty sad on children. By the time girls are in elementary school, 40-60% are concerned about their weight. Dieting in young children is the number one predictor of an eating disorder. Children model our behavior so to protect them, we need to change our thoughts on diets and our own body image.
Here are 5 ways to help protect your kids from diet culture:

Watch your own body talk. When we have our own poor body image, it is hard to not show that in front of kids. Instead trying showing them what you appreciate about your body.
Stop micromanaging their food. Kids don't have to finish their plates anymore. Our bodies innately know when we are full and kids know best.
Challenge authority when necessary. There is no need for a child to know that their BMI is too high. It's ok to tell your doctor, that it is not ok to say that.
Eat meals together. Your child will follow in your lead. Eat a variety so they know that all foods are ok. They will follow what they see at home.
Be prepared for when diet culture talk comes. If you have daughters, it will be especially hard for them to stay away from diet culture talk. You can't protect them all the time outside your home. Be prepared for when this time comes. It may be sooner than you think.
